Songa Residency

This tryptic was commissioned for Songadeewin Camp to celebrate their 20th summer on Lake Dunmore.  The series represents the development of a girl canoeist, including all the landmark stages of accomplishments campers experience: going on your first trip, portaging through the woods, running a set of rapids, to the completion of the Verendrye trip. I hope to depict the development of canoeing skills, as well as more heartfelt lessons - lasting bonds of friendship and a deep sense of belonging, a belief in your own strength and ability to overcome challenges, an appreciation and connection with the natural world. I am honored and grateful to be a part of this incredible community of women and to contribute work that celebrates Songa’s twenty years of empowering girls and women by showing them how to be strong of heart and love themselves and others with ferocity.
